The Proposal

The short version...

I asked and SHE SAID YES!!!

The long version...

Coming up with a successful proposal is hard to do. I thought long and hard and this is what I came up with.

Liza and I are somewhat unorthodox in that we looked for a ring and at wedding venues before the engagement. We stumbled upon Highland Springs Resort (HSR) during our search and immediately fell in love with the venue. It was everything she had wanted: an outdoor, rustic looking venue - and whatever is good with her is ultimately, good for me (she reminds me of that ALL THE TIME). But, when we had gone through the tour of the venue, we didn't commit to it. So, I thought I would use the venue as a place to propose to her.

I contacted the wedding coordinator letting her know that we would like to secure the venue and that I would like to use HSR for the proposal. She was more than happy to comply. I asked that she email us on a given date letting us know that another couple was interested in the venue and that we had to go in to immediately sign papers. I also asked her to tell us that some renovations were underway, which was an excuse to take us to the 1,100-year-old oak tree that we were planning on using for the ceremony. The couple, of course, was fiction. The renovations, turns out, wasn't. The place looks amazing. (Looking forward to partying with you all there!)

In the mean time, I contacted all of her friends and my friends that we would want to be present at the proposal. With all the logistics taken care of, I had the coordinator email us on a night in which Liza was working, so she could do absolutely nothing about the chaos that ensued. She, of course, started panicking and frantically texting me and her friends about the prospect of losing her favorite wedding venue. MOOHAHAHA!

The next day, we went off to the venue. I was extremely worried that she would start talking about the venue. Fortunately for me, she was completely oblivious.

We got to HSR, sat down to sign the papers, and was taken down to the oak tree. All the candles and decorations were set up by our awesome friends, and the only thing Liza could do was say, "Oh my gosh! It's so pretty!" She took a few steps backwards and immediately proceeded in taking photos with her iPhone. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "Get over here so I can propose to you already!" She failed to notice that "H" and "L" were right next to the decorations. I finally got here to get into the spot, and then I asked the words "Will you marry me?"

"SHUT UP!" -Liza

And that's how the proposal went down.

We both look forward to having you be a part of our wedding. Hope you enjoyed our story!
